Confusion in Kogi as ‘prayer man’ tries to revive Abubakar Audu

Tension has gripped Ogbonicha, the home of the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate in the Saturday election in Kogi State, Abubakar Audu, following the delay in the burial of the politician, who died Sunday evening. Mr. Audu’s burial was initially fixed for 10am (today) Monday, a situation which made friends and relatives to besiege his palatial home early in the day. But after waiting endlessly without the burial taking place, angry mourners started demanding his corpse be brought out. To forestall the breakdown of law and order, PREMIUM TIMES correspondent reports, security personnel blocked the main entrance to the late politician’s home. This, the correspondent said, did not deter the angry relations as many of them forced their way into the compound. “Some of the relations banged repeatedly at the door of the room where the corpse of the late APC candidate is kept awaiting burial,” said the reporter. At a point, a cleric was taken into the house to pray and possibly revive the late politician. Our reporter said, “Interesting twist as prophet seeks to pray for Audu’s corpse and bring him back to life Security inside and family members would have none of it but angry youths break the door open ‎ “The prayer man has successfully been forcefully taken in by the wish of the crowd and they have all joined in the prayers for the resurrection of Audu with Holy Ghost fire renting the air as well as shouts of Allahu Akbar. ‎”Dino Melaye and some family members came out through the back door to calm the angry crowd. While they are largely engaged in fervent prayers others are weeping loudly by the door. ‎ ‎”As men and women of faith engage in fervent prayers to bring Audu back to life others are digging his grave in one end of the compound.” His burial has now been fixed for 2 PM. Mr. Audu died a few hours before the election was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He had the highest number of votes ahead of 21 other candidates in the election, including the incumbent, Idris Wada, who ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Former Edo State Governor Chief Lucky Igbinedion Replies Governor Adams Oshiomhole On Alleged Thirty One Million Dollars Spent On Project

Chief Lucky Igbinedion in a press release said the latest publication on a national daily on fifth November, 2015 where Governor Adams Oshiomhole through his Commissioner for Information, Louis Odion and his Commerce and Industry counterpart, Abdul Oroh alleged his administration siphoned the sum of thirty-one million dollars from the state coffers is laughable.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion said Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has failed the people hence trying to get relevance by his latest diatribe on his administration.
He said it is laughable again that it took the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s Government seven years to uncover alleged fraud during his administration in Edo State.
He said Nigerians especially Edo people are aware of the antics of Governor Adams Oshiomhole for trying people on the pages of newspaper.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion said the recent allegations against his administration of using thirty-one million dollars on establishing Avrant Cement Factory attempted to deceive the people of Edo State that he used state funds to build a cement factory for himself.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion stressed that the lies of Governor Adams Oshiomhole cannot go far as the facts are well documented.
The former Edo State Governor said Avrant Cement Company situated at Ekpe near Ikpeshi in Akoko-Edo Local Government was supposed to produce cement to take advantage of the large scale deposit of limestone and that the company was registered as AVA Cement Company with three shareholders.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion added that AVA Cement Company had seventy-five percent shares, Edo State Government had fifteen percent shares and ten percent shares reserved for other Nigerians.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion said the attempt by Governor Adams Oshiomhole to cast aspersions on his person also helped Edo people to know the number of industries he established while serving as governor of the state.
He challenged Governor Adams Oshiomhole to make public industries established by his administration in the past seven years.
On the issue of selling below cost price, the fruit juice factory and the solid mineral processing company at Ehor and Ikpeshi, he challenged Governor Adams Oshiomhole to show Edo people the extent his government has developed cassavita factory at Uromi not sold.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion said his effort at establishing industries during his tenure as governor of Edo State was purely driven by the desire to provide job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths.

Read Story How Police Reacted When Armed Robbers Raided a Bank in Edo State ·

BENIN—SIX persons, including two policemen and a private security man, were killed, Tuesday night, as daredevil robbers took over Igarra town, headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
Nigerian-Police
The robbers, who were said to be chanting Islamic songs, invaded Unity and Keystone bank branches in the town and operated for over six hours.
Vanguard learned that the robbers stormed the town in two Sienna vehicles around 6p.m., attacked the police station in the area, where they killed two policemen, before attacking the banks.
Some of the robbers were said to have made straight for the banks, where they used explosives to destroy the entrance to one of the banks.
During the operation, the robbers, who Vanguard learned came from Kogi State, killed a private security man in the bank and three other persons, one of who was said to be a commercial motocycle rider, while the others were customers that were in the bank premises to use Automatic Teller Machines, ATM.
The two banks are situated opposite each other along Momodu Ajayi Road in Igarra.
Residents of the area were said to have abandoned their homes and ran into the caves as the robbers turned the area to a theatre of war.
Vigilante men to the rescue
However, brave vigilante operatives in the area mobilized and barricaded their exit route along Ekpedo-Ekpe Road, near the border with Kogi State and killed one of the robbers.
A leader of the vigilante group said: “When they started the operation at Igarra, we quickly mobilized our people from the surrounding villages, because the robbers came through Lampese, Ososo to Igarra and would also go back through the axis, passing through Enwan.
“We barricaded their route and a gun battle ensued.
“They were throwing dynamites and shooting ceaselessly. We killed one of them and arrested another, while many escaped with gunshot wounds. We also impounded one of their vehicles.”
Efforts to get the reaction of the state Police Commissioner, Chris Ezike, proved abortive as he failed to pick his calls.
However, Vanguard was informed by a police source that Ezike was busy at the scene of the incident yesterday morning.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Stanley Osifo, could not be reached at press time.
Vanguard, however, learned that mobile policemen had joined the vigilante groups in the area to ransack the bushes, searching for the armed robbers, who fled towards Kogi.
Some community leaders lamented what they described as the “porous security situation in the area, despite police knowledge of frequent invasion of the town through Kogi.”
One of them told Vanguard: “Policemen took off without mobilizing to face these criminals.
“That means we are not safe. If not for the vigilante boys, only God knows what would have happened. Maybe they would have killed all of us.”
